i'm feeling kinda hyper tonight. =)
First of all, today was our last training day for this sem and it was also our grading day.
Jess and i prepared the mashed potato and so we were late for training. But it was worth it. Ha ha. Cos all the mashed potato were gone and we received some praise from the seniors who ate it. =)
Later it was grading. *gasps* My first ever grading. As all the white belts were graded in group of 4, with the rest of the members, including the coloured-belt seniors, and of course, your peers looking on, it was quite daunting. So Sonia, Jess, Kang Min and i decided to do it together.
And i guess it must be quite a sight ha ha. Cos we were the only all-girls group. And i heard some laughter coming from the rest of the people as we ended our pattern with the compulsory shout of "hah!".
After that it was truly an eye-opener to see the rest of the coloured-belt seniors being graded as well. So we started with white-belts (us), then the green belts, the yellows, the red, and lastly, the blue belts.
The highlight of the day was watching the other 3 girls senior doing their patterns and especially the qi gong part. Have you ever watch a girl break bricks with her bare hands? And that's exactly what my senior did. i can practically feel the tension in the air as everyone was looking on and waiting for Jojo to break the brick. Not to mention that some people from Sports Club actually bothered to come down to take some photos and videos of our grading and all the cameras were positioned directly in front of her. Finally when she managed to do it, there was a round of applause. i clapped particularly hard cos i felt that as the minority in NWP, and sort of like the underdogs, she has proved that "girls can also do what guys can do!" Sonia, who was right beside me agreed that she's a great encouragement and inspiration for us.
One day, maybe we can do what she's doing now.
One of these days, maybe we too can break bricks and sticks like what the seniors did. That's a nice thought. Oooh..can't wait to learn qi gong.
Finally, it was the time we all waited for: the result of our grading.
The coach started with," Ok, all the white-belts passed, but.....(sounds like an eternity here)...there are 2 person.....who got double-grading."
Suddenly feel that all those sweat, muscle-stretching and bruises were worth it after all. Out of 8 guys and 4 girls, Sonia and i got it. i guess i was grinning ear-to-ear when everyone came and congratulated us. Jason, the policeman senior said he's glad we didn't disappoint him. But still, i haven't got my Green belt with Yellow tips though. =P
The BBQ in PGP was a success. Everyone was enjoying themselves. During the BBQ half-way, Sonia bought a pack of chips and a bottler of green tea and we sort of 'left the crowd' and walked to the playground to sit at the swings. And i noticed that, boy, she can really sing! Songs like Hakuna Matata and the Phantom of the Opera came out beautifully.
It was a great day. =]
