Superconductor in liquid nitrogen is cool! Ha. Ha. Okay that was a feeble attempt at word play. Anyway, i watched superconductor levitate in mid-air today!! It was so cool!!

Apparently, superconductors only show its superconductivity under very very low temperature. So the lecturer actually brought liquid nitrogen into the class to cool it down. After that the superconductor piece is put on this magnetic horse race track thingy.

And the weirdest thing happen. It start floating in mid air!

The lecturer use a wooden chopstick to push the superconductor piece a bit and the thing started to 'run' around on the track.

And a lot of "Ooooooooh.." and "Aaaaaah.." was heard.

It was so fascinating, which kinda reminds me of those magical lessons Harry Potter would have. Levitation class with Professor Flitwick. "Wingardium leviosa!", with a flourish of the magical wand, objects levitate and float in mid-air.. (i even remember the spell's name okay)

Okay back to reality. i'm not in Professor Flitwick's levitation class. =( But i'm in Prof Sow's Nanoworld class! =)
