The cover of the book and the first page scream of the critics' review. "A pulse-quickening, brain-teasing adventure...", "moves at breakneck pace...". And at the top most of its cover, "#1 New York Times Bestseller". Ahh, that. After one too many, one is almost becoming weary and skeptical of such title.
But alas, The Da Vinci Code proves itself to be worthy of such 'credentials'. And i couldn't agree more with one: "A pure genius" it is. An amazing page-turner, centered on art and symbology, Dan Brown gives some really neat facts and startling revelations without losing the suspense element and keeping the many twists as unpredictable as possible.
Now i know of The Vitruvian Man that was found on the cover of my old lab report book (which i was shamefully ignorant of its special aspects), the bizzare revelations of The Last Supper, and the best of all, the mystery behind the smile of Mona Lisa! Not to mention the Divine Proportion and the Fibonacci Sequence. Guess i also know better not to raise my 2 fingers behind a friend's head in the V-symbol during future photography sessions. *wink* And yeah, man are really from Mars and women are from Venus.
The book raises more than a few ripples with its bizzare insights into Christianity. Claiming a conspiracy theory regarding the Divinity of Jesus and that Bible was created out of a political agenda, it's not a wonder this book doesn't top the list of most favourite book of some people. But still, as was mention in the book: Everyone loves a conspiracy. So that explain the hype around the book and why it had sold some 2.2 million copies around the globe. i heard the movie version is coming out in 2006. absolutely can't wait. Especially if all those places in the book are shown. Meanwhile, this will have to do.
